Dariusz Boruczkowski MD

Specialist in paediatrics and clinical transplantology

Dr. Dariusz Boruczkowski is a long-term member of medical staff at the Clinic of Paediatric Oncology, Haematology and Transplantology at Medical University. He was responsible for the establishment of... the Laboratory for Separation, Preparation, Freezing and Preservation of Hematopoietic Cells at the Department of Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation. He held various positions such as chief of the Department of Transplantation and president for the international development of PBKM. Since April 2011, he has been working at PBKM S.A. as the Medical Director.

Zbigniew Roger Mrowiec

Consultant in cord blood processing to the Polish Stem Cell Bank S.A.

Since 1996, he has been the director of the Elie Katz Umbilical Cord Blood Program at Community Blood Services in New Jersey, USA. The department he runs operates in the field of cord blood stem cell...storage and preservation, where he specialises in the preservation of blood and blood derived agents in various conditions.
His bank currently stores 18 thousand blood units out of which 8400 are available to unrelated recipients. Until now 240 units from his repository were used for transplantation in different centres across the world. The bank’s activity is enhanced by its collaboration with different scientific research centres whose activity mainly focuses on stem cell expansion and the evaluation of stem cell sensitivity in various storage conditions. New Jersey Cord Blood Bank is a member of the prestigious group of public banks designated by the US government to establish the “National Cord Blood Inventory”.
In the years 1991-1993 Dr. Mrowiec was a fellow and later became a professor at the Department of Oncology in Montefiore hospital which formed part of Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York.
Between 1982 and 1991 he held a position at the Institute of Haematology in Warsaw. Since 1986, he has been head of Cell Processing Section at the Department of Transfusion.
A member of:
American Association of Blood Banks (AABB), International Society for Hemotherapy  and Graft Engineering, Bone Marrow Donor Worldwide, New Jersey Society of Blood Banks Professionals as well as former president of the transfusion department at the Warsaw branch of the Polish Society of Haematology and Transfusion Medicine.
He is a member of various scientific boards of organis ations for blood banking and blood products. He is the author of 17 scientific publications and has given 28 lecture presentations at scientific symposia both nationally and internationally.

Professor PhD MD

Barbara Łukomska

Head of the Neurorepair Department at Mossakowski Medical Research Centre of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw.

She received her Doctor of Medicine degree in 1978, PhD in 1990 and was nominated Professor of Medicine in 2005. She was a member of the medical team which performed the first transplantation trial of... autologous cord blood stem cells in Poland. The transplanted stem cells used for this procedure were stored by the Polish Stem Cell Bank. The transplantation was carried out on a child diagnosed with global cerebral ischemia and the procedure was conducted in cooperation with the Children’s Memorial Health Institute.

Grażyna Iwanowicz-Palus MD

Consultant to the Polish Stem Cell Bank for quality of blood collection, as well as establishing and maintaining relationships with midwives and nurses.

Since 2002, Dr Grażyna Iwanowicz-Palus has been a regional consultant for gynaecologic and obstetric nursing in Lublin Voivodship. Since 2001, she has been assistant professor at Skubiszewski Medical...University of Lublin, acting as head of the Department of Practical Obstetric Skills Faculty of Nursing and Health Sciences. As well as co-organising numerous scientific conferences, she is also the author or co-author of 68 scientific papers in obstetrics and nursing. Furthermore, she authored and co-authored the bachelor and master degree curriculum at the Department of Obstetrics in the following subjects: Fundamentals of Obstetric Care, Women’s Experience of Labour and Birth, Midwifery in historical perspective, Professional Regulations and European Requirements.
She is president of the Management Board of the Polish Gynaecological Society, vice president of the Association of Alumni and Friends of Skubiszewski Medical University of Lublin, member of the Polish Association of Social Medicine and Public Health and of the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM).

Professor PhD MD

Marcin Majka

Head of the Department of Transplantation at Jagiellonian University. He graduated from the Faculty of Biology of the University Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan.

From 1997 to 2003, he worked in laboratories in the United States, first at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, then at the University of Louisville in Louisville. The subject of his resea...rch was stem cells from umbilical cord blood. The results of these studies were the basis for writing a doctoral thesis, defended at the Pomeranian Medical University in 2000.
Since 2003, Prof. Majka works in the Department of Transplantation at Jagiellonian University.
Prof. Majka is an expert in the field of stem cell biology. He participated in several clinical researches on the use of stem cells in the treatment of spinal cord injury, brain injury, graft against host disease. He participated in national and international research projects in the field of stem cells, including European Union programmes. Currently, he is leading a project, funded by the National Research and Development Centre Circulate, which aims to evaluate the use of mesenchymal cells from Wharton's Jelly in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases.
